Martin Luther King and Satyagraha

I don't know if Martin Luther King copied Gandhi, or if he developed his own approach, which then was like Gandhi's. His situation was slightly different from Gandhi's, so he needed slightly different principles.

Why Celebrate Martin Luther King Day?

The civil rights legislation was signed in 1964 and the voter's rights legislation in 1965. They were inevitable -- King or no King, they would have become law. Without King, it might have taken another 10 to 20 years, a blip in history.

But without King, there would have been violence and hatred that would have torn the country apart and left scars of hatred lasting to the present day. Every single person in the USA, and perhaps most of all White-Americans, should be grateful to Martin Luther King.
